Network operator AboveNet secured a deal to provide connectivity at an iomart Hosting data center on City Road in London. iomart provides managed hosting and business continuity services at the facility, whose customers can now take advantage of AboveNet's private network across England's capital.

The deal, while expanding Whilte Planes, N.Y.-based AboveNet's fiber footprint in London, gives iomart customers access to the provider's dark fiber, IP transit, metro and international Ethernet services, according to an AboveNet statement.

"Cloud computing services will ultimately only be trusted for mission-critical applications if they are delivered over a highly available, fast, dependable network," AboveNet U.K. Managing Director John Donaldson said in a statement. "That means removing possible points of failure - such as passage through exchanges present in traditional networks - for the reliability today's businesses need. By making this investment in dedicated fiber connectivity, we are able to deliver a highly scalable, ultra-fast and secure solution to London's businesses."

AboveNet reported a non-GAAP net income of $24.6 million in the quarter ended on June 30, according to the company's latest earnings statement. The figure was an increase from the same quarter in the previous year, when the company's net income was $11.2 million. CEO Bill LaPerch attributed income growth to acquisitions of new "bandwidth-hungry" companies in the media, financial services and energy sectors.
