Quality Technology Services (QualityTech), one of the largest privately held providers of data center facilities and managed services in the US, has successfully acquired a 960,000 ft┬▓ facility in the downtown Atlanta area. The facility is located at 1033 Jefferson Street in Atlanta, Georgia and was purchased from MetroNexus.
The acquisition is in line with the company’s strategy to grow its national footprint of data centers to meet the growing demand for data center space from corporate customers and is the seventh data center owned by QualityTech. “The addition of this facility to our portfolio expands our Atlanta footprint to over 1.3 million ft┬▓ and positions us well to meet the increased demand we are seeing for high-capacity and high-density data center space from corporate clients, commented Mark Waddington, President of Quality Technology Services. QualityTech has an existing 376,000 ft┬▓ facility in Suwanee, Georgia located just 30 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
The Jefferson Street facility, referred to as Quality Metro (Metro), boasts 960,000 ft┬▓ of space, which is fed power from an 80MW on-site substation dedicated to the Metro facility. The site has access to all major network providers with a presence in Atlanta. The facility currently houses a 100,000 ft┬▓ data center and Quality will be adding 200,000 ft of additional raised floor in the coming months.
“We are designing the facility to support high-density power and cooling requirements, says Dave McGirt, Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Facility Operations for QualityTech. “High density computing environments such as Blade Servers are having a significant impact on data center power and cooling systems and we are one of the few companies with facilities that can support these loads.
In another development, QualityTech has announced it has entered into an agreement to purchase Globix Hosting LLC, a subsidiary of Globix Corporation. The purchase adds New York and California to the existing QualityTech locations for a total of 1.5 million ft┬▓ in data center facilities. “The addition of the Globix US Hosting business is in line with our strategy and is one step towards achieving our goal to be the premier provider of managed services and data center facilities in the country,” says Chad Williams, Chairman and CEO of Quality. “The New York and California areas are key pillars in that strategy” Williams added.
