Clean energy investment firm 547 Energy is launching a new data center platform.

The company this week announced the launch of CleanArc Data Centers. Led by Vantage Data Centers founder Jim Trout, the company offers data center turnkey program management, design and construction, and operational commissioning, bundled with power structuring.

Trout also founded data center consultants Proferian and previously held roles at Digital Reality and ProLogis. He was president of CoreSite when it was founded as CRG West. Trout left Vantage in 2013.

CleanArc’s site is light on details, but says it plans to offer hyperscale customers green developments through ‘bundling new data center campuses with innovative clean energy contract structures that approach zero carbon emissions’.

The company aims to offer something called ‘True Additionality’, which it says provides “load-following clean energy” sourced from solar, wind, storage, and hydro projects within the consumption service territory, while also ‘limiting customer pricing and credit risks’.

Details of planned developments aren’t listed, but the company said it plans to initially focus on North America. DCD has reached out for more information.

CleanArc founder and CEO Trout said: “We are thrilled to be a 547 Energy portfolio company and draw upon the vast global energy experience and power structuring expertise of the 547 Energy team and the broader Quantum Energy Partners team. The world’s largest hyperscalers are leading the transition to a zero-carbon grid, and CleanArc will help them get there faster, as we prepare for the next decade’s worth of data center capacity.”

547 was founded by Gabriel Alonso, previously CEO of EDP Group’s renewable arm EDP Renewables North America. 547 is the clean energy investment platform of Quantum Energy Partners.

Steve Irvin, managing director of 547 Energy, said: “Jim and the CleanArc Data Centers team have created a compelling company that is well-positioned to innovate in the data center market and provide hourly matching solutions to the world’s largest data center customers. We look forward to using the full Quantum Energy platform to support CleanArc’s success.”

The company’s previous investments include Irish renewable energy firm Aer Soléir, offshore wind company BlueFloat Energy, energy storage developer ConnectGen, and self-consumption energy developer NetOn Power.

Founded in 1998, Quantum Energy Partners is a provider of private equity capital to the energy sector.
