Plans for a data center campus at Wycombe Film Studios suggest data center buildings up to 23.5m tall.
First reported by Bucks Free Press, outline details for the site have been submitted to the Buckinghamshire Council by Wycombe Park Ltd, owned by Luxembourg-based investment firm SCIO Capital.
Plans to build data centers at the film studio site near High Wycombe in the UK first emerged in October 2024, though details were sparse beyond suggestions that at least one data center would be developed.
"Substantial market demand" for data center developments and "uncertain market conditions for new studio space" were listed as motivating factors.
A master plan suggests that the site could see six data halls developed, each spanning 9,300 sqm (100,104 sq ft).
The data centers are proposed for heights up to 20.5m (67ft), which with rooftop plant equipment could total 23.5m (77ft).
The plan, however, notes that the buildings will not occupy the entire site, and will have a step down in building height nearest the residential areas. Additionally, there will be "strong" landscaping at the edge of the site to screen the buildings.
The submitted plans are merely an outline, with a detailed full specification to be shared at a later date.
Earlier this month, UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner greenlit another data center project in Buckinghamshire. The approval was given to a 140MW development at the Court Lane Industrial Estate following a public inquiry that opened in June.
Rayner and her colleagues in the UK’s Labour government have made data center development a priority as part of planned reforms of UK planning laws. Earlier this year, the government designated data centers critical national infrastructure. A government-commissioned report published in November recommended the creation of special zones for data centers to make it easier to build the facilities.
