Day One

The conference opens on the 5th November, and we'll be kicking off the action by examining the global climate emergency and the rising tide of environmentalism that will see governments and consumers increasingly hold the industry to account. This discussion opens with a Plenary Keynote from Noelle Walsh, Corporate VP of Cloud Operations & Innovation at Microsoft on ‘A balancing act: Delivering cloud at the intersection of sustainability, community and innovation’. Noelle will be highlighting how an increasingly digital and connected world supported by cloud infrastructure means a greater reckoning towards conscious resource use and environmental impact.

To continue this important conversation Noelle will join the Plenary Panel Discussion following her presentation, titled ‘How should the data center industry now respond to the global climate emergency?’ Looking to tackle one of the most pertinent issues to face the entire data center ecosystem today, alongside Noelle our panellists, Dave Johnson (Executive Vice President, Secure Power Division, Schneider Electric), Gary Cook (Senior Corporate Campaigner, Greenpeace), Andy Lawrence (Executive Director, Uptime Institute), Dr Mike Hazas, (Reader, Lancaster University) & Susanna Kass (Data Center Advisor, United Nations Sustainable Development Group) take a closer look at questions such as: how is the data center industry going to sustain growth rates that support exponential data usage in the face of a global climate emergency? Day Two

The 6th of November will develop the edge story and look at how 5G is about to challenge how we think about data centers. The second day of the conference will see experts examining the race to build the mobile edge and how this is likely to play out in terms of the ownership, technology and regulatory challenges that infrastructure operators will face if they are to succeed in this rapidly developing market.

Take a closer look at why 5G is about to challenge how we think about data centers with Mark Thiele, Executive Director Edge Cloud at Edge Gravity by Ericsson. Mark’s session will cut through the noise on 5G to focus on how this is likely to affect the data center industry.

Following Mark’s start to the mobile edge debate, he will join our panel of experts featuring Cara Mascini (EdgeInfra), Rhonda Ascierto (Uptime Institute), Andrew Snowsill (SmartEdge DC), Brendan Rawle (Equinix), and Mark Harrop (Arcadis), who will answer burning questions on the race to build the mobile edge, such as: what will it look like? Who will own it? Who will pay for it? 5G will require edge compute, no doubt. But what shape will it take, literally? Will this convert into ISO container micro data centers? Who will own it? The incumbent telco, the mobile network operators or will it be the major cloud players, a new breed of neutral colocation or will it be a municipal play?
