DCD>Debate: Should data centers actively avoid being classified as critical infrastructure?
As Europe begins to classify its data centers as critical infrastructure, the same conversation in the US will soon happen. On the one hand, this should be welcomed. By being classified as critical, data centers can receive more support from governments, agencies, and investors. However, is this worth the trade-off of having greater regulation and security?
Can and should data centers speed up or push back on this change? What will happen if data centers are re-classified? How would re-classification impact conversations on location, power availability, security, and technology use? What will legislation look like, state by state?
Held under Chatham House Rule, DCD>Debates are open discussions led by a panel of experts, on the biggest issues to face the industry.
