The virtual conference on data center design & construction

Case Study: Building up to expand out - is height the solution to scale and speed?

As real estate in Northern Virginia becomes increasingly scarce and costly, QTS and the design team made a bold decision with their Project Joshua to build upward in order to get more critical space and capacity out of each acre of real estate available. As the first 3-story data center constructed in Ashburn, the facility encompasses 400,000 square feet, with 32 megawatts of total capacity across 12 column-free data halls, delivered in just 10 months.

Join this session to hear how QTS, finalist in the DCD Global Awards 2019 for DC Construction Team of the year, achieved both scale and speed in this build, and the pivotal roles that innovation, collaboration and being “powered by logistics” played. Gain insight into how the three-story design of the facility provided an equilibrium between real estate utilization, construction cost, and future growth flexibility. Tag will also share how they have taken the lessons learned here and applied them to campus construction across their portfolio.
