Supporting Ireland’s renewable energy transition with dynamic frequency support
This episode is available to stream on-demand.
With the shift to renewables driven by net zero transitions, fluctuations in grid frequency are inevitable due to the dynamic nature of wind generation and fluctuations in power demand. Data centers are in a unique position to stabilize the grid through the use of UPS technology. This episode will deep dive into how Digital Realty was able to respond to these fluctuations in Ireland’s grid by redirecting loads from the grid to batteries in real-time. We will explore:
- How the initiative was able to enhance overall data center reliability by mitigating potential risks from grid events
- How the project is expected to help the grid save more than 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, depending on customer load
- Challenges and how these were overcome, and how the industry can move to a model of grid support as the relationship between data centers and the grid evolve globally
