Battery technology climate impact and sustainability
Energy storage technology is fundamental to society’s transition away from the carbon economy, towards full electrification which can be seen in the enormous growth projections of this sector. And in the context of data centers, batteries are a key building block of resilient and redundant power architectures. Meanwhile, there remain many questions around the environmental impact of batteries in general.
This presentation explores the sustainability credentials of nickel-zinc and other new battery chemistries that are becoming viable options for mission critical deployment and includes the results of a recent life cycle analysis study that quantifies the carbon intensity and other environmental impacts of the technology.
