Exec Workshop: What are data centers for? Online services and data traffic in everyday life

Motivated by the exponentially rising energy demand of data centers, networks and IT, the objective of this workshop is to share insights from fieldwork carried out with research participants (end users). We take traffic data gathered using either logging software on the mobile device or a special router installed in the home; and co-analyse this data with participants during in-depth interviews.

Join Mike as he shares unique observations about how online services and network traffic flows relate to what people do and what they find important or meaningful—and equally, where there is little such relation. Find out what the fieldwork has also revealed when it comes to how different online services are increasingly consumed concurrently in homes, in particular when it comes to video streaming.

Session takes place in Cityside West Room on Level 2 and is open to all attendees
