Data center provider Pulsant has been bought by Oak Hill Capital Partners from Bridgepoint Development Capital (BDC).

Pulsant was formed in October 2010 after BDC bought IT service provider Lumison in a strategy to create a unified supplier to the UK mid-market.

Under the new Pulsant brand it acquired colocation provider Blue Square Data in February 2011, managed hosting and cloud services provider Dedipower in September 2011 and Scolocate, a provider of colocation, managed hosting and cloud services in Scotland, in December 2012.

Pulsant currently has a network of ten company-operated data centers across the UK, connected by its own fiber network.

US-based Oak Hill owns colocation and hybrid cloud service provider ViaWest, cloud-based hosted service provider Intermedia and colo provider Telecity Group.

Pulsant’s CEO Mark Howling said he expects to see more consolidation in the data center and service provider market.

“Pulsant has benefited from better cash flow and has invested in growth with funds from Oak Hill,” Howling said

Howling and the rest of the Pulsant management team are part of Oak Hill’s growth trajectory, David Scott, principal at Oak Hill, said.

“Pulsant is well positioned to grow in the data centre services market with clear and sustained demand for its services.  We look forward to further building the franchise,” Scott said.
