On the same day that Microsoft and Facebook have made significant data center build projects, Google has had plans approved by the Dublin City Council in Ireland to build a new data center in the west of the city.

Google first announced its plans for the €150m facility in February.

Today, the Irish Times, said it will now go ahead with its 30,361 sq m two-storey data center at Clondalkin, Dublin.

Google’s first data center in Dublin was built in Profile Park – it was about half the size of the proposed facility.

Google owns 11 acres at Profile Park, which is also home to TelecityGroup, Digital Realty Trust and Microsoft facilities.

Dublin is also the home of California-based Google’s European headquarters.

According to a report by the Independent in Ireland, Google could be submitting its planning application for the new data center as early as tomorrow.
