Bandwidth provider US Signal announced an expansion of its long-haul fiber network in Ohio. Upon completion, the expansion will have added 1,000 miles of fiber to the largest network in the Midwest, the company said in a statement. It is also adding four colocation facilities to its data center footprint: two in Cleveland and one each in Cincinnati and Columbus.

"Our private line and switched Ethernet services are unique, because they are not constrained to LATA or state boundaries," US Signal COO Daniel Olrich said in a statement. "We are able to deliver a fully functional meshed switched Layer 2 and/or Layer 3 network regardless of location or speed."

US Signal's current network is comprised of more than 6,000 route miles of long-haul fiber and more than 700 miles of metro rings in 21 markets. Its network connects locations in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio.

The project is the company's second expansion in Ohio in the past six months. US Signal expanded in Toledo in March. It is planning future Ohio expansion projects in Akron, Canton, Lima and Springfield.
