A data center fire broke out yesterday at the administration quarters of the Mindanao Island-based utility Davao Light and Power in the Philippines, reports local publication Inquirer.net, whose bureau office is adjacent to the company’s quarters.

The incident was reported to emergency services at 9am on Sunday. It lasted for an hour and a half, before the fire brigade successfully put the blaze out.

Paperwork it is then

It is not known what caused the fire, though combustion as a result of electrical faults is relatively common in data centers.

As a consequence, Davao Light and Power staff are temporarily processing bill payments, complaints and applications manually in the main building, which was untouched by the fire, and will do so for the foreseeable future while the data center operations are restored.

No casualties were reported following the incident, a relief for locals still mourning the death of 38 people who died in a blaze which broke out in a US-run shopping mall and call center in Davao City on December 23rd, after failing to comply with fire safety requirements for the past five years.
