US operator Verizon has won a contract worth $1.58 billion with the US government.
The contract will see the carrier modernize the global communications infrastructure and provide IT services for each of the Department of State’s (DOS) US embassies, consular, and other key locations around the globe.
The Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract will run over the next 10 years and includes the implementation and management of network solutions across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.
It follows Verizon's other government contracts, notably a $400 million contract with the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) back in July to improve 4G and 5G data speeds.
Verizon was also more recently awarded an $11.5 million contract by the US Department of Defense to install and maintain a 5G private network inside an aircraft maintenance hangar at joint military base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) in Hawaii.
“We are uniquely qualified to provide the Department of State with powerful solutions to their global network consolidation and management needs,” said Verizon public sector senior vice president Maggie Hallbach.
“We have supported the Department of Defense and other national security and civilian customers with global critical infrastructure and communications for more than three decades.”
