Vantage has officially launched the first of three data centers on site of the former Intel campus in Santa Clara, California. All 40,000 sq ft of raised floor in the recently completed building has already been leased out, a Vantage spokeswoman wrote in an email.
The building provides 6MW of critical load on the campus whose total IT power capacity is 37MW.
Vantage is shooting to complete the second building by September of this year, which will add 45,000 sq ft of raised floor and 9MW of power, expandable to 18MW. The company is currently in discussions to lease out the entire second facility.
The third and largest building is slated for completion in December. It will offer 110,000 sq ft of raised floor and 23MW of power.
Vantage CEO Jim Trout said the company's long-term goal was to provide new levels of efficiency and scalability at every campus it builds. "Our ability to deliver the lowest energy rates, combined with our scale and flexibility, will translate into significant potential cost savings for our customers," he said.
The initial $300m build-out at the campus was backed by Silver Lake, a technology-focused private equity firm. Siren Data SC-3 bought the 18-acre property from Intel around June 2010. In addition to existing data center space, the campus has a dedicated substation.
