Arizona data center services provider Phoenix NAP has updated the software for its Secured Cloud offering, adding a multi-facility option to customers of the Infrastructure-as-a-Service product. This means users will soon be able to create virtual machines hosted at different data centers around the world.

The first node location of Phoenix NAP’s cloud outside of Phoenix will be in Amsterdam. The second one will be in Ashburn, Virginia.

The company has also added API (application programming interface) options to the software, which brings extra automation options for clients’ virtual infrastructure.

UnitedLayer upgrades San Francisco data center

UnitedLayer, provider data center services from colocation through cloud, has upgraded its data center within Digital Realty Trust-owned campus at 200 Paul in San Francisco, adding redundancy to the power and cooling infrastructure.

The provider has installed new Mitsubishi uninterruptible power supply (UPS) machines, setting them up to work in parallel in an N+1 configuration. Mechanical systems at the site are now also N+1.

The upgrades have also made the UPS set up more efficient, going from 80% efficiency previously to 98% today.

DRFortress brings IaaS to Hawaii

DRFortress, a colocation services provider in Hawaii, has added a compute-infrastructure cloud to its services. Called DRFcloud, the service is pay-as-you-go and is available throughout the Pacific Rim.

Technology supporting the new cloud service was provided by Appcore, which delivers IaaS infrastructure to telcos, data center providers and others. DRFortress started its foray into cloud services with a partnership with Nirvanix, provider of enterprise-class cloud storage solutions.

Both DRFcloud and Nirvanix have primary nodes at the DRFortress data center in Hawaii and redundant nodes on the US mainland for disaster recovery.

Zayo makes a local fastest-growing-business list

A local organization in Bolder, Colorado, that creates ranking lists for companies in the area, has included Zayo, provider of network connectivity, colocation and interconnection services, on its 2012 Boulder County Business Report Mercury 100 list.

The list includes fastest-growing companies in two of the state’s counties. Zayo is based in Louisville, Colorado.
