Telecom Namibia (TN) has signed a N$100 million ($5.3m) agreement with Huawei to deliver a fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) core network.

The partnership will see the Chinese vendor modernize TN's core network.

The modernization project will integrate its fixed and mobile networks, which TN states will provide a better experience for its customers.

TN also touted the sustainability benefits of the upgrades, noting that the infrastructure will be more energy efficient and reduce energy consumption.

“Telecom Namibia is confident that the successful implementation of the fixed-mobile convergence network will accelerate our digital transformation efforts," said Stanley Shanapinda, CEO of Telecom Namibia.

"This is a huge investment in our network and highlights the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and delivering exceptional services to its customers.”

It's the second major digital transformation agreement TN has signed this year.

In June, the company signed a N$327 million ($17.95m) network modernization agreement with Spanish company SATEC.

Last month, the telco also outlined plans to build 500 telecom towers over the next five years.
