Nokia has confirmed the completion of its purchase of Fenix Group.

The acquisition, which was initially announced in December, will expand Nokia's footprint in the US.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fenix specializes in providing tactical communications solutions for defense communities, including tactical broadband products.

Its networks are "designed to provide for mission-critical services at the Edge, mitigating reliance on satellite communications, cloud-based services, or higher-echelon command data networks."

The move will add these products, plus Fenix's Banshee family and Talon MANET radios, to Nokia's current offering.

Nokia notes that the products bolster its existing portfolio, and enable it to "offer a more comprehensive suite of 3GPP-based solutions to its defense customers worldwide.

In January, Nokia unveiled a dedicated entity called Nokia Federal Solutions (NFS), focused on providing secure solutions to the US federal government.

NFS will utilize Nokia’s technology portfolio underpinned by Nokia Bell Labs to address the critical needs of US federal agencies across diverse missions.

The vendor has previously said the unit will deliver private cellular, Edge computing, and other critical connected solutions to the federal government.

Fenix Group was previously a portfolio company of Enlightenment Capital.
