A new dcBLOX data center is now open in the Tennessee town of Chattanooga, the company’s second since it was founded in 2014.

Thanks to its new multi-tenant facility, dcBLOX will provide active-to-active high-speed synchronization of IT systems within a wider radius than was formerly possible, with improved disaster recovery to deal with hefty applications. The company has its own 100Gbps optical network, which it reports is scalable to 17.6Tbps.

The company claims its new, Tier III compliant center has five times the performance of traditional data centers, thanks to high performance compute and hyper-converged systems. It also hosts its own OpenStack SDN integrated cloud from the facility. Service level agreements (SLAs) support the company’s cloud and network reliability at 99.999 percent.

The company’s co-founder and CTO, Joshua Reyneveld, is also the CEO of Myoonet, IT infrastructure and network solutions provider. Myoonet developed dcBLOX’ modular enclosure system used in both Atlanta and Chattanooga, and sells it exclusively to dcBLOX.

The virtual and standard colocation provider received $15 million in funding from investment advisory firm Atalaya Capital Management  last year, which the company used to upgrade its Atlanta facility and build the Chattanooga one.

By investing in under-served locations such as Chattanooga, dcBLOX hopes to further develop the tech industry in the region. It reportedly chose Tennessee’s fourth largest city because it already has a smart utility grid, is close enough to major fiber carriers to create a local hub, and is located a hundred miles away from its counterpart in Atlanta.

Mayor Andy Berke stated that “This major investment will create many new good-paying jobs in our city and clearly demonstrates we have the innovation assets and necessary infrastructure in place to attract next-generation technology companies to Chattanooga.”
