Operator of the future wholesale data centers on the Santa Clara, Calif., property recently sold by Intel will be the newly formed company called Vantage Data Centers. DatacenterDynamics reported on the sale of the site – already including one data center – last week and on Thursday, Vantage Data Centers VP of Sales and Marketing Chris Sumter confirmed that Vantage was the company that will operate the facilities.

The company is funded by the investment firm Silver Lake, which now owns the property. The 18 acre site includes three buildings, one of which is a former Intel data center, and an on-site electrical substation. The plan is to build out more data center space on the property. According to a Vantage Web site, one of the data centers will provide more than 60,000 sq ft of data center floor and 6MW of power and a second one will provide more than 70,000 sq ft and 7.5 MW of power.

Silicon Valley has recently seen a lot of activity in the data center space, with major providers boosting their inventories in the region. During the last week of May, the Suwanee, Ga.-based colocation provider Quality Technology Services announced an addition of 70,000 sq ft of data center floor and 15 MW of power at its Santa Clara facility. Around the same time, Digital Realty Trust announced an acquisition of two buildings in the same city, where the San Francisco-based colocation wholesaler is planning to build out 48,000 sq ft of data center floor, powered by more than 6.6 MW of power.

Earlier that month, DRT announced another property acquisition in Santa Clara. This one was of a building that would be converted into a data center that will yield 25,500 sq ft of raised floor.

In April, another colocation provider CoreSite completed the first phase of its new Santa Clara data center, adding 50,000 sq ft of data center floor and 8 MW of power. The company leased the entire phase to an unnamed client in May.
