Avacon and enviaM are investing a total of €40 million ($43.65m) in developing the data center, which is expected to be operational by mid-2025.

Groundbreaking is expected to occur in 2024, and once completed the data center will be powered by renewable energy and will reuse its wasted heat.

The data center is being developed by a joint venture between Avacon subsidiary Avacon Connect and enviaM subsidiary en-via TEL called Avacon Data Center GmbH. The company will also be based in Sehnde.

“The Avacon Data Center in Sehnde not only sets new standards for security and performance but is also an important stimulus for the economic development of the Hanover region. With minimal latency times and maximum data security, we are strengthening the competitiveness of local companies and making the Hanover region even more attractive for investments,” said Marten Bunnemann, CEO of Avacon AG.

envia TEL builds and operates telecommunications networks. In addition to the Hanover project, the company operates a data center in Leipzig.

Avacon Connect provides Internet, telephony, and networking solutions to customers in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
