Applied Digital could be forced to amend plans for a data center in Adair County, Iowa, so that it doesn't impact nearby homes.
Creston News Advertiser reports the company has proposed a 200MW data center on the 1200 block of Fallow Avenue, Adair, adjacent to the NextEra Energy substation.
The company is planning two 300,000 sq ft (28,700 sqm) buildings, which will host between 40 and 70 employees.
However, following a county meeting on April 2, Western Iowa Today reports an ordinance will be put together to propose to set back the data center back from the road, away from other properties.
Residents expressed concern about the Applied Digital facility, with supervisor Jodie Hoadley reportedly suggesting that the area was in more urgent need of farm land and that Applied Digital had been unable to explain how the data center would benefit the community.
The board agreed that zoning is now necessary for the development, and a public hearing on the ordinance will be held on April 24.
Applied Digital operates several data centers across the US, including a 180MW facility in Ellendale, North Dakota.
