One hurdle that can harm the growth of MENA’s data center industry is that critical supply chain challenges can be overreliant on long lead times and overseas shipping to come close to demand. Perhaps this would not be so bad, if we had not seen how vulnerable global supply chains have been since 2020.
Perhaps the need for local manufacturing hubs has become self-evident - particularly in Saudi Arabia, where government support and low electricity costs create an ideal environment. Moreover, as edge computing drives decentralization, companies must collaborate across complex supply networks while leveraging AI-driven analytics for accurate forecasting. Can MENA embrace a proactive approach to resilient and sustainable supply chains, or will geopolitical uncertainties and traditional practices hinder progress? Can this industry shift to more agile procurement strategies and localized production in order to meet increasing demand?
Held under Chatham House Rule, DCD>Debates are open discussions led by a panel of experts, on the biggest issues to face the industry.
