How quickly can we shift to 24/7 carbon-free energy? A progress report on Google’s moonshot goals for data center sustainability

In light of recent scientific reports such as the IPCC preliminary assessment ahead of the COP26 in November 2021, as well as a catastrophic season of wildfires and hurricanes, the need for action and leadership on climate has never been more urgent. Now with 23 active hyperscale data centers across four continents, Google has doubled down on its ambitions to operate the industry’s cleanest cloud and to rewrite the playbook for how a business can lead on climate solutions. But achieving its moonshot goals will be no easy feat.

Gary Demasi will provide an update on Google’s progress across several areas of data center sustainability, including a multidimensional approach to achieving 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030, new water stewardship commitments, and how a focus on data transparency can accelerate sustainable outcomes across the Data Center industry
