FairPoint Communications is to open a new data center facility in Manchester, New Hampshire. It will be the telecom provider’s second facility in the Granite State. In June of last year, FairPoint launched its first data center in Laconia to provide customers with commercial IT infrastructure services.

“We’ve seen tremendous interest in data center services since we opened our data center in Laconia,” said Chris Alberding, FairPoint’s VP of product management, in a statement. “With an additional data center location, we’ll be able to provide more businesses – both within and outside of our service area – with secure data center services.”

Based in Charlotte, N.C., FairPoint’s largest customer base comes from the northern New England area that includes Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. The company entered the region in 2008 when it purchased Northern New England Spinco, a landline business previously owned by Verizon, for $2.4bn.

The telco’s data center services division offers pay-as-you-go leasing ranging from half rack to full cage options. It also offers its data center customers an on-site maintenance and troubleshooting service called Remote Hands.

FairPoint claims to own northern New England’s largest fiber network – a fiber-core Ethernet with more than 16,000 route-miles in the region that offers speeds up to 1 Gbps.
