Meta has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to procure 210MW from two solar projects in Indiana.

Spanish renewable energy company Solarpack announced the two long-term agreements involving the construction of two solar power plants.

Meta will then purchase the output from the two projects, partly to power its recently announced $800 million data center in Indiana.

Other details of the transaction were not shared.

Leo Moreno, CEO at Solarpack, said: “We are excited to both support Meta’s decarbonization goals and reach this major milestone for Solarpack in the United States, a key growth market for us. We’re proud to offer global decarbonization solutions supporting local carbon-free generation near data center loads.”

The companies said ten percent of Indiana’s energy is currently from renewable sources and the solar projects will help advance the state towards a carbon-free future.

The tech giant Meta said its global operations have been 100 percent supported by renewable energy since 2020. The company has signed PPAs in the US with the likes of Adapture Renewables, Ørsted, rPlus Energies, Avangrid, DESRI, EDP, BP, SiliconRanch, and others.

Announced earlier this year, the company is developing a 619-acre data center campus in Jefferson, Indiana.

Founded in 2005, Solarpack has a project portfolio of 17GW spanning 13 countries. It currently operates 51 renewable projects.
