Users will now be able to deploy their virtual machines on servers in Singapore, minimizing latency and optimizing performance when serving clients in the region.
This is the first of several locations the company plans to open in Singapore in the first half of 2010.
More availability zones in other Asian locations will be brought online in the second half of the year, Amazon said in November.
The company said then that expansion into Asia was a response to demand from the region's developers and businesses, as well as from customers operating on a multi-national scale.
The first Singapore location supports Elastic Compute Cloud offerings, Simple Storage Service, SimpleDB, Relational Database Service, Simple Queue Service, Simple Notification Service, DevPay and CloudFront.
The new region will be supported by RightScale, a company that provides open-source interfaces for cloud computing platforms.
Amazon's previously existing colocation data center sites included several US facilities in California and Virginia, as well as Ireland.
