China Mobile has appointed He Biao as its new CEO.

He takes over the role from previous chief Dong Xin, who resigned in January to take up a government position.

The company's CFO Li Ronghua had been interim CEO until He took the helm on April 26.

He was a director and the president of China Mobile Communications Group, the telco's parent company.

He has previously worked for China United Network Communications, China Unicom Hong Kong, and China Unicom Online Information Technology.

China Mobile is one of the biggest mobile carriers in the world, and surpassed one billion connections at the end of February. The telco had been the largest globally until it was overtaken by India's Reliance Jio last month.

The company suffered a blow in the US last week after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ordered the US units of China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Mobile to discontinue fixed or mobile broadband Internet operations in the United States.
