Spanish data center firm Adam this month will inaugurate a new data center in Madrid.

The new modular facility, the company’s third, is located in the Tecnoalcalá Technology Park within the campus of the University of Alcalá. The first phase of development will consist of the 3,500 sqm of floorspace and 4MW of capacity.

Talking to DCD, Adam’s commercial and marketing director David Ribalta, said the company had ‘always wanted to be in Madrid.’

“It is where the main corporate headquarters of the country and the delegations of the large multinationals are located. But, in addition, it is a very important pole of attraction for technology and talent, which in a very short time has developed a very powerful digital hub at the European level.”

First announced in 2019, construction began in October 2020. The company says the facility will meet Tier III standards and 100 percent of the energy used will be from renewable sources. The Alcalá facility will host the new version of Adam's infrastructure as a service (IaaS) platform, based on OpenStack, and is the first data center in Spain to offer DE-CIX's DirectCLOUD service.

Founded in 1995, Adam opened its first data center in 2001. As well as the new Madrid data center, the company has two facilities in Barcelona: a 600 sqm, 1.5MW facility, and a 3400 sqm, 4MW facility.
