Nigeria’s National Carrier, Globacom announced it opened a data center in Lagos, the countries capital, to provide co-location, disaster recovery and dedicated hosting services.
The company plans further data center footrprint expansion with a facility in Abuja, in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory. Network-based services, applications, equipment and cloud services will be delivered from the facility.
Cesar Camara, Globacom’s Corporate Chief Information Officer, is reported as saying that due to the unreliable power supply most servers and web sites for large organisations are hosted in overseas data centers. 

 “This is why Globacom is stepping in to become one of the top players in the Managed Services Industry across Nigeria and West Africa. We do this by leveraging our existing telecoms infrastructure, Glo1 Submarine cable, reliable power supply network, experienced manpower and experience in building state-of-the-art technologies for our existing voice and data telephony services,” he told local web site Biztechafrica.com while conducting a tour of its Data Center in Lagos.
“This makes our high capacity data centers highly sought after by all categories of businesses  including SMEs, Financial Institutions, Oil and Gas, Educationists, Hospitals to telecoms service provider,” Camara said.
