Immediacy, bandwidth and privacy are the main drivers to the development of Edge capacity, says Jim Simonelli, Senior Vice President of Emerging Businesses at Schneider Electric.
The challenges include manageability - as these small remote modules need to be managed effectively without local staff.
"Some applications need to be served in the cloud, and some need to be served at the Edge," he said. "The confusing thing about the Edge is, how do I decide if the resources I need can be deployed quickly and reliably."
What are the answers? "Edge needs an ecosystem... and the world is moving towards standard reference designs."
