Bruce Myatt

Director, Mission Critical Engineering and Construction, Black & Veatch

Bruce Myatt, PE is a critical facilities engineering consultant, an account executive, and a data center project director. He is currently Global Director of Data Center and Critical Infrastructure at Black & Veatch (www.bv.com) in San Francisco, and has been Founder of Silicon Valley’s Critical Facilities Round Table, Executive Editor and Technical Adviser at Mission Critical Magazine, Infrastructure Mason Master 1st Degree, and frequent speaker at Data Center Dynamics, DataCloud and other conferences.

Bruce is a registered Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years of technical, business development and business management experience working with critical facilities such as nuclear power plants, semiconductor fabs, DOE’s national laboratories facilities, and data centers. He is currently helping his data center clients get “fast-track” electrical power to their datacenters with the delivery of onsite generators and substations, and is planning for both hydrogen and nuclear projects in the not-so-distant future. He helps achieve climate accord objectives through designs that future-proof facilities with modularization, decarbonization, and sustainable green building features.

Early in his career, Bruce performed accident analysis and design of nuclear power plant facilities including General Atomic HTGR reactor internals, General Electric Mark-1 BWR emergency core cooling systems, Westinghouse BWR balance of plant MEP systems, and DOE Hanford’s N-Reactor. He has also developed Hydrogen hub conceptual designs for ARCHES and two other regional hydrogen hub conglomerates.

Bruce helped lead an engineering team in the design of a 100MW hyperscale network of data centers. He has led other teams that were recognized as Finalist in the 2013 Data Center Dynamics NorAm annual Awards competition for the TDC Self-powered Data Center and 7x24x365 Power Plant, and others as Finalists in eBay’s national design competitions for their Mercury and Quicksilver projects. Previously, he helped develop programs for DOE, LBNL and PG&E related to data center energy efficiency including new construction & retrofit design assistance, retro-commissioning, and micro-grid design.

Bruce pioneered & evangelized server cooling solutions with aisles enclosures that prevent the mixing of chilled and hot air streams in data center environments. He was selected as a technical advisor to DOE, EPA, CEC, LBNL, and PG&E Committees focused on Data Center Energy Efficiency, and has presented solutions at Data Center Dynamics in SF & NYC, National 7x24 Exchange, Uptime Symposium, Critical Facilities Summit, Next Generation Data Centers, at several PG&E Customer Energy Efficiency conferences, & many other event.
