The University of Lahore (UOL) in the Pakistani state of Punjab will be the first national educational institution in the country to establish its own certified Tier III compliant data center.

Real-tech for students

The facility will run on dual powered IT equipment, with concurrently maintainable infrastructure, and is expected to be highly reliable, with less than 0.02 percent downtime.

Schneider Electric will provide all non-IT hardware and TechAccess will assist UOL to set up and maintain its IT infrastructure.

The site will run the university’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure for 11 Faculties and 32 Departments, as well as hosting a private cloud for 30,000 students, 4000 faculty members and the university’s Student Life Cycle & Campus Management facilities.

The University also intends to provide its cloud services to other academic institutions and commercial organizations once its facilities are up and running in approximately five months.

At the data center’s inauguration ceremony, UOL Chairman expressed his contentment at the prospect of providing the university’s students with first hand exposure to technology in addition to existing theoretical teachings.
