Data centers operators are among more than 3,000 UK businesses that face penalties and fines of up to £45,000 for missing the deadline for registering for its CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme on 30 September.

According to IT support company On365, companies that have not registered yet should do so as soon as possible. It warned administration delays of longer than 18 working days could be experienced.

Compliance to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme alone is predicted to cost about £60,000 per organisation and includes setting up low-cost energy use monitoring and working out how and when to buy carbon credits and climb the League Table, which will often carbon credits, scheduled to begin in 2011.

QuantHouse leases fiber in sewers

Low-latency trader QuantHouse said it has leased dark fiber travelling through London's sewer network from Geo as part of its proprietary London fiber-optic network.  

Geo will provide fibre connections to QuantHouse's key data centres including Equinix Slough, Telehouse East Docklands, Interxion, Equinix Park Royal and the London Stock Exchange (LSE). 

QuantHouse said its clients are becoming increasingly demanding for even higher transaction speeds.  

Panduit opens London demo center

Panduit said it has recently opened a new customer briefing center in the City of London, which features a demonstration data center designed to showcase its latest unified physical infrastructure (UPI) solutions. 

The center adds to a list of Panduit display centers, which feature in Chicago, Paris and Frankfurt.
