Australian data center operator Metronode (a subsidiary of Nextgen Networks) has agreed a deal which will enable existing Telstra customers to purchase services from its data centers without having to sign an additional contract. The cost of such services will be placed on their Telstra bill.

According to Metronode CEO David Yuile, the deal will considerably expand the reach of Metronode and position its data centers as the perfect facilities to host Telstra’s private cloud solutions.

“Our customers want choice and flexibility, so this agreement with Metronode means they now have more options for collocation services through Telstra,” added Michael Riad, director of Cloud Services, Global Products and Solutions at Telstra.

Everybody wins

Metronode has been offering carrier-neutral colocation services to customers in Australia for more than 12 years. The deal with Telstra involves all ten of its Tier III data centers across seven Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

“Customers are not constrained by traditional data centre engineering and don’t need to re-design their cloud infrastructure when they move their critical applications to Metronode’s next generation data centres,” Yuile said.

“This agreement gives Telstra customers more choice to effectively deploy hybrid cloud solutions, using Telstra private cloud and colocation on Telstra’s network.”

Metronode is expected to open a brand new data center in Canberra in September 2015. The compny is also expanding its facilities in Perth, at the cost of AU$20 million.
