Schneider Electric has launched an integrated rack containing immersion-cooled IT equipment.

The announcement, in partnership with cooling specialist Iceotope and rack maker Avnet, was strongly hinted at the Schneider Innovation Summit in October. Schneider and Iceotope have had a partnership since 2014.

The combined product will include a GPU server in a 1U tray cooled by Iceotope's immersion cooling, integrated with Schneider's NetShelter liquid-cooled enclosure, and supported by rack and electronics maker Avnet. Schneider claims it is the first commercially-available integrated rack with chassis-based, immersive liquid cooling.

Coming from Schneider, the product obviously features the company's EcoStruxure management software. It is "optimized for compute-intensive applications," including the usual suspects, AI, big data analytics and machine learning algorithm training.

The product is being shown at the Gartner IT Infrastructure, Operations, and Cloud Strategies Conference in Las Vegas this week. Gartner, recently identified liquid cooling as a 'technology to watch,' having noticed that it can offer greater efficiency, lower operating costs, smaller a footprint, increased reliability, and nearly silent operation.

“Iceotope is thrilled to be making its innovative chassis-level, immersive liquid cooling technology available to the general market,” said David Craig, CEO of Iceotope. “We offer the only liquid cooling tech that scales easily from edge computing devices to large server farms in the cloud."

The release came with a saet of interesting picture above, but is short on other details, such as the power density it can handle.DCD has asked for more.
