Research company Technavio’s latest report lists the top seven global data center rack power distribution-unit market (PDU) vendors.

The top vendors are listed by the size of their revenues in the PDU market. The report also contains a breakdown of top vendors by market share and forecasts for the growth in the sales of intelligent and non-intelligent PDUs between now and 2020.

Rakesh Kumar Panda, Technavio’s senior industry analyst for data centers research said: “Through the use of alternating phased power, wiring of PDUs in data centers is simplified, as the need for power cords is eliminated completely. Therefore, the task of plugging servers from the bottom to the top of the rack is minimized by the deployment of this architecture. Alternating phased power also provides other benefits such as better airflow, improved load balancing, and shortened cabling.”

“Over the next four years, most enterprises around the world are expected to establish green data centers. Therefore, it will soon become imperative for rack PDU product manufacturers to invest in rack PDU designs that will help save power and increase the efficiency of data centers,” added Rakesh.

The report lists the main players in the market chosen by market share and attempts to draw out the trends which are likely to develop during the forecast period.
