Data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software vendor Rackwise is working to integrate Intel Data Center Manager (DCM) into its product, the companies said last week.

Rackwise said the resulting product will provide unprecedented data aggregation, visibility and reporting capabilities for maximizing efficiency and cost-containment in operating data center and IT infrastructure.

Jeff Klaus, director of data center solutions at Intel, said the combined solution will offer data center managers visilbiltiy into device-level energy usage and thermal data that can be used in capacity planning, forecasting, performance monitoring and energy management.

“Rackwise DCM’s extensive visualization, reporting and analytics platform combined with information from Intel DCM will give data center personnel an unprecedented level of intelligent access and control over the physical and virtual assets within the data center,” Klaus said.

Intel DCM features include real-time power and inlet-air-temperature monitoring, with aggregation capabilities for rack, row and user-defined groups. The chip-maker’s solution also provides logging and filter-enabled querying capabilities.

On the control side, Intel provides functions like server power capping and prioritized workload processing, among other features.

Users do not have to install software agents on nodes they manage with Intel DCM. For integration purposes, the vendor exposes high-level Web Services Description Language APIs. The software can live either on an independent management server or on a shared server together with other vendors’ software.
