NEC Australia and data center provider NEXTDC have penned a national deal to deliver secure enterprise cloud services to NEC’s Australian customers.

The agreement expands NEC Australia’s data center footprint aiming to provide NEC Cloud Solutions in a secure, scalable and geographically dispersed, highly redundant environment.

Under the agreement, NEXTDC’s purpose-built colocation data centers in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth (opening in February 2014) would support NEC Australia’s Cloud Solutions infrastructure, platform and application services.

NEC is also reviewing additional opportunities to support the demands from its customers in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Tasso Mangos, CTO of NEC Australia, said by partnering with NEXTDC, NEC’s customers’ cloud assets will be served out of state-of-the art data center facilities from every major business centre in Australia.

“Combined with NEC Australia’s platform and infrastructure services and expertise, customers enjoy a highly-optimised cloud experience, which is supported by a nationwide network of high-availability and high-redundancy data centres,” Mangos said.

“Ultimately it means NEC customers can focus on reducing costs, and improving the responsiveness and agility of their technology and business operations.”

Craig Scroggie, chief executive of NEXTDC, said he was pleased to expand the company’s relationship with NEC Australia in support of NEC’s national cloud computing strategy.

“The arrangement offers new opportunities to leverage our ecosystem and world-class data centers to deliver a second-to-none cloud experience for NEC Australia’s customers.”

NEC Australia said its Infrastructure Cloud Solutions offers scalable, subscription-based compute, network and storage resources.

Its cloud offering delivers on-demand customer relationship management (CRM), contact center, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and identity management applications in the Cloud, while Unified Workspace provides desktop, mobile and unified communications and collaboration services in the Cloud.
