Customers in the north of England can now connect directly to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) through UK Grid’s carrier neutral data center Manchester One @ Synergy House.

The connections can open up new relationships with other customers – up to 457 - peering at AMS-IX.

Telecommunications company IX Reach is providing networking solutions for the project. It can allow any network in Manchester One to connect to AMS-IX with capacity from 100Mbps to multiple 10Gbps connections.

Manchester One @ Synergy House is the first data center to be AMS-IX enabled, which means UK Grid can offer customers direct point-to-point Ethernet connections into the internet exchange using IX Reach’s pre configured international capacity running between the two cities.

The data center itself is Tier III certified and has 25,000 sq ft of data center space with capacity for 300 extra racks if required.

IX Reach CEO Monica O’Meany said AMX-IX ports have already been allocated by UK Grid.

"Manchester is a fast growing city in Northern Europe with continuous influence in the telecoms market which makes it one of the key cities that has captured our attention," O’Meany said.
