Colocation and manages services provider Latisys is building a new data center in southern California, which will double the company’s data center capacity in the region. The data center in Irvine is located in proximity to the company’s first facility in the city.
Expected to come online in the second quarter of next year, the new 93,000 sq ft data center will offer power density up to 250 watts per square foot. The company will use it to provide colocation, managed hosting and cloud-based services. Colocation offerings will range in size from single cabinets to private suites.
Latisys CEO Peter Stevenson said the company caters to growing companies that cannot afford to build out their own infrastructure.
“Today’s expansion announcement reflects a sizable investment and commitment to Orange County enterprise customers, and builds further upon our belief that Latisys’ is the premier destination for customers that need or want to grow, yet can’t scale their own infrastructure in the Orange County market today,” Stevenson said in a statement.
The announcement comes less than one month after Latisys raised $110m of fresh capital, which it said it would invest in expansion in several of the US markets where it has presence. In addition to Irvine, Latisys has data centers in Ashburn, Virginia, Chicago and Denver.
Latisys gained presence in Ashburn in March, when it acquired data center provider Pryme. The deal gave the company 120,000 sq ft of data center space in the market.
In July, Latisys expanded its Chicago facility, adding 32,000 sq ft of raised floor and 5MW of power.
