Intel’s venture capital arm Intel Capital has invested US$8.8m in an Indian IT infrastructure services provider that operate high-density data center facilities.

NxtGen Datacenter & Cloud Technologies is based in Bangalore and services Indian and Middle Eastern customers and has plans to enter South East Asia.

NxtGen Datacenter CEO AS Rajgopal said the funding will be used to complete a large high-density data center that is coming up in Bangalore which he expects will be operational by March next year.

NxtGen claims it will be the first data center built in India that is designed specifically for the Cloud, and has secured 20MW for the Tier III facility that will offer 12KVA per rack.

India is not famed for its power infrastructure, but the facility is being built close to large power sources.

The funding will also help with further development plans for existing facilities.

Intel Capital president and Intel EVP Arvind Sodhani said India is “at the forefront” of cloud computing and data infrastructure services.

“Intel Capital has a long history in India and we’re proud of our strategic role in helping entrepreneurs here grow locally and scale globally.”

He said the investment also includes access to Intel’s global network, brand capital and technology expertise.

NxtGen already has more plans to expand in the card. It said it plans to open more high density cloud data centers in future in Delhi and Mumbai.
