HP is integrating Schneider Electric's StruxureWare data center infrastructure management (DCIM) product into its management system, OneView.

This should allow OneView users in the IT space to see what is happening within their server, storage and networking systems from a facilities management viewpoint, down to the level of power usage, temperature and other variables. OneView is the latest iteration of HP's management strategy, originally sailing under the OpenView banner.

"Building upon StruxureWare’s existing integration with HP’s universal configuration management database (uCMDB), this integration provides simultaneous visibility into asset data for both IT and facilities managers, enabling a key next step in automated service deliveries and data center service optimization,” said Soeren Jensen, vice president of software and managed services at Schneider.

Bidirectional live data
The integration between StruxureWare for Data Centers and HP OneView enables bidirectional, live communications between the two platforms to eliminate data silos between IT and facilities, Schneider promises. Both sides will gain greater visibility into server, storage and network management, as well as service creation, giving a more "holistic" view of and the IT services they are delivering.

Direct transfer of data alswo reduces operational expense (opex) and cuts down the possibility of human error, the company points out: "Data centers can also determine the true cost of ownership for services by being able to associate workloads to watts."

HP hopes the link-up will allow its customers to deliver services more quickly and reliably: "IT and facilities partnerships are the core of converged management,” said Rick Einhorn, VP of data center consulting, HP. “This is an important element for businesses looking to benefit from the New Style of IT across the data center and facilities lifecycle.”

HP has been offering DCIM consulting since the start of the year, and this announcement follows a deal earlier this year to integrate StruxureWare with HP's universal configuration managament database, and will be extended in future, as HP has joined Schneider's EcoStruxure partner program, to collaborate on the interoperability of future products.
