French carrier-neutral data center operator Euclyde has announced that it will spend €6 million ($6.4m) to refresh its facility in Lyon, near Villeurbanne.

The project, which is currently underway, will upgrade and combine the 2,000 sq m (21,527 sq ft) data center the company acquired last year with an adjacent facility.

This investment “demonstrates the ability for Euclyde to position itself as a strategic partner of local companies and to occupy a central place in the hosting market for critical IT infrastructure in Rhône-Alpes,” Magdi Houry, founder and chair of Euclyde said (translated).

Euclyde purchased the data center in Lyon from web services company Netissime last April, and has been upgrading it since. The final 3,000 sq m (32,291 sq ft) facility will consist of two buildings designed to Tier III standards.

It will house up to 15,000 servers, with plans to add capacity for an extra 10,000.

The first room in the new data center will come online in February, with the entire site set to be finished by the second quarter of 2017.

Euclyde currently operates four data centers, two in Sophia-Antipolis, one in Besançon and one in Luxembourg. In Lyon, the company will compete against DCforData’s upcoming facility, which will pack 3,658 sq m (39,374 sq ft) of data center space, as well as an older Toshiba data center.
