One of the world's largest wholesale data center providers Digital Realty Trust has beefed up its customer service offerings, adding two new services for its clients, which include a Web portal for remote data center management.

"This free portal gives our customers the ability to proactively manage their data center operations using a secure, easy-to-use Web interface that puts a wealth of information at their fingertips," DRT SVP Dave Caron said in a statement. "This will be a valuable tool for all of our customers, and particularly for those that have more than one data center with us across different buildings or cities.

"We expect it to become a centerpiece of our customers' data center management process."

The portal, titled Digital Realty Trust Connection, provides real-time operational information to clients about their data centers in addition to expanded access to around-the-clock DRT support services. Data accessible through the new portal includes standardized forms, customer documentation and latest operational notices for DRT facilities.

The DRT Connection also provides remote access to the company's Critical Facilities Management system from any computer connected to the Internet and the ability to produce customizable reports about any particular data center.

DRT expects to fully deploy the application across its entire data center portfolio by the end of this year, according to a company statement.

The San Francisco, Calif.-based REIT most recently made headlines in October, when it announced an acquisition of two new data centers in Santa Clara, Calif., for a total of $90.5 million. Purchase of the two fully leased facilities expanded the company's global data center footprint by a total of about 185,000 square feet.
