Cyxtera has announced a three-pronged expansion across Europe with a new data center in Frankfurt and planned expansions in Amsterdam and London.

The 3MW Frankfurt data center, the company’s second in the city, will launch in July along with the London expansion. The Amsterdam expansion is expected later this year.

The new data center and London expansion will bring Cyxtera’s European footprint to 650,000 square meters (7,000,000 sq ft) and 34MW of power, largely thanks to the company’s considerable presence in London.

Cyxtera’s London operation consists of five facilities totaling 16,000 sq m (172,222 sq ft) of space and 30MW of utility power. The expansion will add 30,000 sq m (323,000 sq ft) to the company’s Slough, Greater London data center.

Alex Pearson, senior vice president for international sales at Cyxtera, said: “Increasing our presence in London and Frankfurt is key to meeting the growing demand we are seeing from industries including the finance, manufacturing and technology sectors. Europe is a key region for Cyxtera and our customers, so this expansion is a natural progression.”

Cyxtera was formed when CenturyLink sold off its data center arm to a consortium led by BC Partners and including Medina Capital Advisors and Longview Asset Management.

As part of the $2.3 billion sale, the business was combined with Medina Capital’s security and data analytics businesses - including Cryptzone, Catbird, Easy Solutions and Brainspace - and named Cyxtera Technologies.

Cyxtera runs 57 data centers worldwide, consuming 195 megawatts of power across 241,500 sq m (2.6 million sq ft) of raised floor space.
