American colocation specialist CyrusOne has opened yet another data center in Houston.

The first phase of the Houston West III facility – its fifth in the city - held an open day on Thursday. Once finished, the data center will offer 450,000 square feet of white space and up to 96 megawatts of critical power.

CyrusOne owns and operates 31 carrier-neutral data center locations worldwide. The company has been going through a period of rapid expansion, enabled by its ‘Massively Modular’ architecture which it claims can deliver a fully working server farm in record time – for example, the company built its second facility in Phoenix in just 107 days.

The 45-acre West Houston campus hosts the Houston Geophysical Center of Excellence for Seismic Exploration Computing, and most of the servers there are used to search for oil and gas deposits.

With the addition of the third data center, the campus will total almost a million square feet of white space, making it one of the largest in the state.

The site is strategically positioned to access redundant utility power feeds, and plugged into National IX, a platform that links various CyrusOne data centers together and connects them to major metro networks.
