Most of us associate edge networking with streaming media content delivery (Netflix), mobile social media, interactive gaming, or, more immediately, Pokemon Go augmented reality (AR). However, the biggest “user” segment for the network edge and associated data analytics computing will likely be a myriad of IoT applications.

DCD Webscale, taking place July 19-20 at the San Jose Convention Center, ends its first conference day with a special keynote panel of people leading the IoT transformation across a variety of industrial (fintech) and consumer applications. On this panel is Sirisha Kadamalakalva, director of fintech-related investment at Bank of America’s Merrill Lynch unit.

He’s joined by Jessica Carroll, PhD, and a fellow at the Institute for Digital Transformation (and former director of digital and social media transformation at the US Golf Assn.).

Also joining the conversation is Dipti Vachani, VP for Intel’s IoT Group Corporation in assessing strategies for Web-scalable IoT resource usage.

Panel moderator, Sarah Cooper, vice chair for the Internet of Things Community, notes, “Before IoT can transform business, we need architectures and metrics for hyperscale production to manage its impact on infrastructure and resources, and to ensure we are metering business value.”

“This is a new, fast-scaling and fast-changing area of demand for hyperscale cloud services,” says DCD EVP Bruce Taylor. “This is an area that is challenging traditional business assumptions at the same time it is straining current IT and cloud architectures.”

Illuminating the world of devops and containers

There’s a profound organizational and technology cultural change underway in the world of DevOps and container-based microservices computing that’s not only transforming IT operations, but also profoundly alternating the economics of data center server computing and storage.

A special panel comprised of George Slessman, CEO and chief architect, IO; Phill Lawson-Shanks, innovation and architecture chief, EdgeConneX; Sandeepan Banerjee, SVP of engineering and ops at Cluster HQ, and Varun Sharma, lead enterprise architect at Bank of the West will explore the intersection of DevOps and the worlds of containers and hyperconverged in the open-source, software-defined data center era.
