International pharmaceutical group Servier has expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to accelerate the research and development (R&D) of pharmaceuticals.
Servier and Google Cloud have entered into an expanded five-year agreement that will see Servier using Google Cloud's AI offerings for R&D.
Google Cloud will help Servier to analyze large amounts of medical data in real time. Thus far, Servier has identified around 60 generative AI use cases for its work including the identification of new therapeutic targets and screening, accelerating time to market, and understanding the biological evolution of pathologies and drugs to optimize formulas among others.
"At Servier, we firmly believe that the combination of scientific innovation and advanced digital technologies, especially artificial intelligence, will enable us to bring innovative treatments to patients more quickly and more personalized solutions," said Claude Bertrand, EVP of R&D and chief scientific officer at Servier.
"Our enhanced collaboration with Google Cloud gives us the opportunity to harness the full potential of AI to reach scientific conclusions more rapidly and thus increase the productivity of our R&D."
Servier has already begun to provides its employees with tools based on Google Cloud AI technologies including its Gemini LLMs.
"We are both delighted and impressed by Servier's use of our AI and generative AI technology to accelerate its research and development programs," said Shweta Maniar, global director of healthcare & life sciences at Google Cloud. "Servier is moving quickly from experimentation to production, in a pragmatic way, with a clear priority given to ethics, confidentiality, and security. This collaboration will lead to new progress in the research and treatment of many diseases in the years to come - we can't wait to see what will come next."
Servier signed an initial five-year agreement with Google Cloud in August 2022 that would see Google providing Servier with its technology infrastructure. The partnership has now been extended for a further five years.
In other customer news, already this year Google Cloud has announced that it is the office cloud technology partner of Formula E with a multi-year AI and technology agreement.
This month has also seen Amazon Web Services sign an agreement with General Catalyst to provide the necessary technology and compute for the development of AI solutions for healthcare systems.
